Kyocera Document Solutions Inc., has announced a collaboration with Japanese designer, Kunihiko Morinaga, who is also the founder of Japanese fashion brand “ANREALAGE.” This collaboration showcased a unique work of art created using fabric printed by Kyocera’s new inkjet textile printer, “FOREARTH,” at the 2024-25 Fall/Winter women’s collection in the ongoing Paris Fashion Week.
Morinaga was inspired by the concept behind “FOREARTH,” which is an inkjet textile printer designed to significantly reduce water usage, addressing longstanding challenges in the textile and apparel industries such as water pollution from printing and waste generated by excess fabric and clothing disposal.
Renowned for his innovative fusion of fashion and technology, Morinaga has garnered global acclaim for his creativity. Having debuted at Paris Fashion Week in 2014 and being selected as one of eight finalists from a pool of 1,700 designers worldwide for the LVMH PRIZE in 2019, his work includes designing the official uniforms for the Japanese pavilion at the Dubai Expo in 2021 and creating stage costumes for Beyoncé’s World Tour in 2023.
Reflecting on the collection, he shared, “The theme of this collection is ‘OBJECT.’ I explored clothing designs for inanimate objects rather than humans, envisioning a fashion landscape a century from now in the 22nd century. Departing from conventional human-centric designs, I envisioned a spherical form as the body and crafted a frilly dress to encase it. When worn by the sphere, the dress mimics a water droplet; however, once removed, it transforms into a garment for people to wear.”
By virtually eliminating water usage in textile printing, “FOREARTH” obviates the need for additional facilities like steaming and washing typically required in traditional printing processes. This innovation not only results in substantial energy savings but also contributes to a notable reduction in CO2 emissions.
