Prada’s Spring 2027 Runway Pumps Might Test Your Trypophobia

Anyone with trypophobia may want to admire Prada’s spring 2027 runway shoes from a distance.

At Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’ Tuesday show in Milan, jeweled flowers spread across glossy pumps riddled with irregular holes that ran from the tapered toes along the sides of the shoes. The pattern was reminiscent of one found in nature, almost resembling an abandoned honeycomb or bees’ nest.

For anyone wondering why Prada’s hole-filled pumps make them a little (or very) uneasy, trypophobia — an aversion to clusters of small holes — might explain it.

The flowers themselves were worth a closer look, assuming you were up for one. A gray pair featured two metallic blooms with blue centers and layers of pointed petals, arranged across the vamp much like decorative shoe clips. Beneath them, small rounded holes and longer, uneven cutouts exposed bits of the foot through the glossy upper.

A black version had darker floral ornaments and the same scattering of holes. Styled with a black skirt trimmed in jeweled flowers, the pumps carried the embellishment down to the toes, with plenty of bare skin in between the two.

Prada’s floral footwear had some company this fashion month. At Proenza Schouler, folded sandal uppers curled around the toes like calla lilies, while TWP worked petal-like curves into closed-toe shoes.

Thom Browne went further into the garden for his “A Bug’s Life”-inspired collection, adding antennae to pumps and butterfly wings to platforms. Prada’s flowers fit right in, although the cutouts brought to mind something you might be less pleased to discover in your backyard.

For those who would rather leave the hive comparisons there, the collection had several other shoes to consider. Green satin heels featured a narrow band across the toes, finished with a small bow and a rectangular jeweled ornament. With their enclosed backs and slender heels, they looked like pumps that had given up most of their toe coverage. A black biker jacket and pale-blue pleated skirt kept the styling from feeling too precious.

A navy pair left the sides open but extended into a long, sharp toe, with a thin, bow-trimmed strap connecting the front to the heel cup. Pink strappy styles showed off more of the foot, while glossy black open-toe shoes had broader uppers and thick, curved heels. The latter were worn with a pink skirt suit, picking up the black trim around the jacket and hem.

Those skirts were the collection’s main concern, as Miles Socha reported in his review for WWD. They appeared with everything from bra tops to biker jackets, leaving plenty of room to see what was happening below the hem. During a preview, Prada compared the skirt’s rectangular shape to the frame of a painting.

“So you are obliged to put ideas on the frame,” she said.
