Timberland Opens at American Dream Mall as Part of Store Growth Strategy

Timberland is betting on the mall comeback with its newest door.

Located inside the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, N.J., the VF Corp.-owned brand’s new store carries a large assortment of footwear, apparel, and accessories for men, women, and kids.

The store’s footwear highlights include well-known silhouettes from the brand, including the Premium 6-Inch Boot, Timberland Pro safety footwear for tradespeople, and new casual and outdoor styles. Apparel focuses on everyday layers and Timberland’s signature outerwear, the company said.

The location, which opened on Friday, held special activations all weekend like a boot customization station with purchases, featuring a lace and patch bar plus laser engravings.

What’s more, Timberland’s new global character Timmy the Rat, revealed to the world on social media on June 1, also made an appearance for the occasion. Illustrated by cartoonist and graffiti artist Shaun Crawford, Timmy is a street icon who speaks to Timberland’s authentic city style and outdoor heritage,” the company explained.

New iterations of Timmy will be revealed as he pops up for store openings across the globe, donning looks that reflect the local style scene. For the American Dream opening, Timmy straps on skis and braves the mega-mall’s indoor roller coaster.

Jennifer Marston, vice president and general manager of Timberland Americas, told FN that the brand’s entry into American Dream puts it “at the heart of one of the nation’s most dynamic retail destinations.”

“American Dream attracts a diverse audience that aligns very well with Timberland’s outdoor heritage and versatility for the city lifestyle,” Marston said. “Beyond that, the center’s regional draw across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania amplifies our commercial reach and presence across the Northeast corridor. This is a great move for our brand, and we’re excited to be here!”

The brand’s American Dream location joins 13 other Timberland outlet and specialty stores in the greater New York/New Jersey area. The new opening is also part of Timberland’s overall strategy to open 20 new stores across outlet and specialty locations in fiscal 2027.

Bracken Darrell, president and chief executive officer of VF Corporation, told analysts on the company’s fourth quarter 2026 conference call last month that the “outsized productivity” shown by Timberland’s new stores are “early proof points” of the brand’s new operating model “working as planned.”

The CEO also said on the call that Timberland’s Premium 6-Inch Boot continues to be the key engine behind the brand’s momentum. “We’re also seeing good results from boat shoes, which is growing across all regions with significant growth potential ahead,” Darrell noted. “We’ll continue to both build on the strength of the iconic boot, but also introduce more innovation across the rest of our footwear assortment.”

Global revenues for the Timberland brand increased 8 percent to $1.7 billion globally in fiscal 2026, up from $1.6 billion the prior year, driven by growth in the Americas and Europe regions.
